Jim
began playing guitar at the age of 11. "My Catholic grade school wouldn't
let me play electric guitar in church, so I started a surf-rock-rhythm and
blues band with my two brothers." Through the years, Jim went on to play
with many different kinds of bands. "A friend of mine once told me; If
you want to get good, play as many styles of music as you can. Don't just
do one thing!"
At age 17, Jim did a stint with a group of Chicago blues musicians who had just done a tour with blues great Albert Collins. "Those guys would ride me pretty hard every night. They would say that I was gonna be alright once I started using the 'men's room'."
"I think the coolest moment for me came when I had a few beers with Les Paul at Harpo's bar in Milwaukee. He gave me a hug like an old friend. It was PURE MAGIC!"
